Peter Hope

Peter Hope is an organisational member standing for the position Ordinary Member for a 2 year term.

Why do you want to join the Youth Action Board of Governance?

I want to join the Youth Action Board of Governance to make a personal and professional contribution to the organisation that has been very supportive of my youth work career and the young people/community that I serve. I believe that Youth Action has played an integral role in my professional development and I would like to see similar outcomes for other youth work professionals. I believe that I can work with Youth Action to grow its membership and increase it's reach as an advocate for the organisation. I am passionate about ensuring young people have access to as many opportunities possible for their own personal development and that Youth Action should be a household name for anyone looking to address youth issues in NSW. I am excited about the idea of being part of the body that oversees the valuable work conducted by Youth Action and ensuring that the Youth Action continues to meet the needs of young people from across NSW. As a representative of the South West Sydney Area, I would also be a strong advocate for ensuring the complex needs of our diverse community are considered by Youth Action - and that key priority issues such as mental health, refugee youth settlement, youth unemployment continue to receive the attention they require from the Peak body.

What skills and experiences would you bring to the Youth Action Board?

I have been involved with Youth Action since I commenced my Youth Work Career in 2004. I have been lucky enough to stay up to date with Youth Action as it has evolved over the years, and have relied on the professional advice and resources from a number of  Youth Action Officers to do my work. This has given me first hand experience of the impact the organisation can have for youth workers. I bring with me a knowledge of Youth Action, a knowledge of the challenges faced by the Youth Sector (i.e funding reforms, competition, dis-empowerment). I have extensive experience in facilitating networks of youth Service Providers, and a commitment to working in collaboration with all stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for young people. I am able to work alongside professionals and/or young people, and have experience in events organising and volunteer coordination. I am currently convene the Fairfield Youth Workers Network in collaboration with 4 other agencies, I am the Chair of the Community Engaged Teaching and Learning Committee for Western Sydney University School of Medicine (since 2015), I am a volunteer member of the Holroyd Arts Advisory Committee (Cumberland Council) and Vice President of the Holroyd Musical and Dramatic Society (Volunteer).  Through my professional development as a Youth Worker, Youth Health worker and Local Government Youth Development Officer,  I have developed a range of skills and knowledge that I feel would be of value to the board.
